Writer's Block...
neatly sharpened standing straight
they beckoned to me through my dread
taunting me to pick one up
to make my mark, state things that must be said
all through the day I stared their way
and in my sleep I felt them still
but not one word was I to say
writers block had stayed my quill

Have I been there! You have managed to give writer's block a lovely lilt. Taunting pencils at the edges of sleep. Wonderful Magpie!

ReplyDeleteWell aren't we johnny on the spot this week? My mind followed the same line of thought when first I viewed the prompt, but I doubt that'll I'll be able to put it to rhymn as exquisitely as you have here.

ReplyDeleteI know that feeling well, Connie. I have only just realised that is your name and I am using it because Constance is one of my favourite names and is the name of one of my grand-daughters - not a name one hears often these days.
ReplyDeleteNice rhyme pattern. Had to read this one out loud!
ReplyDeleteVery nice, and I can relate to your magpie. I felt similar feelings when gazing upon this picture.

I am learning that when the say the best cure for writers block is to write about it they are right. Great approach and wonderful poem.
