Blue Day...

I will be away from my blog for a few days, but wanted to post a new watercolor I just finished.  I suppose it is the winter weather (no snow but no color either) that is making me long for my flowers.  I am a lover of the heritage flowers.  My favorites are old fashioned violets, lily of the valley, iris, hydrangeas, roses (only those that have been maintained with their original aromas), sweet william, peonies, foxglove, wisteria, trumpet vines, honeysuckle...well, you get the idea.  I love their wonderful aromas and am always rewarded with beautiful memories of my childhood when I am fortunate enough to have a large bouquet in my home.  I remember as a small child, my Mother washed with an old wringer washing machine every Monday.  Once the laundry was done and hung on the line she would empty the water, bucket by bucket, dumping it is a special area outside the back porch.  This area grew the most beautiful Sweet William and Flocks.  I used to sit amongst the flowers and dream of seeing wonderful places in years to come.  Now, I sit in some of those wonderful places and dream of the flowers of my youth.  I hope you enjoy this offering and as always I love to hear your remarks, they keep me going.

  1. I can perfectly understand your longing for flowers with their fascinating colors and aromas. And you paint them with so much love and tenderness!

Reminiscences always touch a chord within me. I'm moved by your childhood memories about the flowers outside the back porch being watered by your mother with what was left in the washing machine .

Have a wonderful time wherever you're about to go to!

  3. Lovely picture. I love the sidebars on your blot, they are so beautiful too. When you write the names of your favourite flowers they sound like poetry - they are all my favourites too.

  4. This is just sooooo watercolor-y! I love the effects of the different blues together and how they make such great iris textures. Very nice treatment of my favorite flower, too!

  8. Tess,

Thank you so much for dropping by and sharing my flowers. How did you come up with your Kennel's name? Must have visited the Southwest. Hope to see you again.
