Sepia Saturday...

Alan Burnett and Kat Mortenson's Sepia Saturday Blogspot was brought to my attention by Willow's blog posting.  What a wonderful and fun idea.  So, here is my first offering.
One of the Sidney Consolidated Schools' (Sidney, Iowa) first transportation vehicles.  Prior to this, students walked, rode horses or arrived in wagons pulled by horses.  Notice the gentleman on the right who appears to be working on it.  Isn't it amazing how many technological steps we took during the last century?

  1. Now that is a vintage bus! I bet it was built like a tank. Fun pic. Glad you joined in on Sepia Saturday, C.

  2. Coni, thanks so much for your comments on my blog about the portrait challenge. Your observation warms my heart especially since you "got" why I did what I did.
I'm having so much trouble with my blog; I'm going to email with the problem. Maybe you can help.
    Thanks again. Ruth

  6. Neat photo of an early school bus! And you're right, I too think all the time about the sweeping advances made in such a relatively short period of time...

  7. Many steps indeed. Mind you, these vehicles were probably a good deal easier to work on than today's monsters.

  8. Loks quite a solid and uncomplicated bus!
I like the picture, but then I am a nostalgic sort of person.

  9. Interesting photo. I am wondering if you have a Sidney, Iowa connection or that you have relatives there. I taught in Sidney for four years before I moved to the northwest of Des Moines area. I enjoy your painting.

  10. I love sepia pictures. It always makes me think the whole world was that color -- way back then.
